Beauty and the Beast was great
I had some reservations going into the performance on February 28th after reading Kyle McMillan's review in the Denver Post. However, it was fabulous - the music was meaningful and terrific, and the dancing was so fluid. Hercules flexing his biceps posed no problems for me. The emotional side of their characters should be conveyed by the dancers, and his conceit really came out. The titles available for ballet cannot be beaten, helping to keep the story line on track.
In my mind, I would rank Beauty up there with Dracula, a dark story with suspense and great dancing, very different from the usual Disney-esque production some parents were expecting. The sets were inventive, and some moments reminded me of a Julie Taymor production. A great, great piece of theater. How lucky we are to have such an accomplished ballet company. Kudos to all!
